The land that is now Nolde Forest was orginally primarily meadow land. The owner at the time was so inspired by a single white pine tree that grew in the middle of this land that he hired a forester to create the forest that is now Nolde Forest State Park.
Alvernia University began as a liberal arts school for women in 1960. The first men did not enroll until 1971.
The Maple Grove Speedway actually began as the Brecknock Speedway in 1937. The Brecknock Speedway was a half-mile long, flat and oval dirt track. The speedway wasn't completely converted to a Drag Strip until 1962.
